Civilizations begin as an idea — a dream of order rising from chaos, of farms becoming cities, of scattered tribes becoming nations. Yet the legacy of civilization is never written in straight lines; it is carved from conquest and compromise, brilliance and brutality. Behind every temple and tower stand generations who built, fought, and sacrificed, often without choice. Progress has always been double-edged, creating wonders while leaving scars that echo through centuries. The railways that connected continents also carried away resources; the machines that powered prosperity also ground laborers into dust. Even today, the skyscraper skyline hides questions about who pays for its glitter and who is left outside its gates. To understand the future we are building, we must look honestly at the past — at its triumphs and its failures — and ask what we are willing to carry forward.
